AT THE END THE EVO-WALL WAS BURNED AT THE MAN BURN PILE ON SUNDAY IN THE AFTERNOON. IT WAS AN END TO THE WALL STRUCTURE BUT I BROUGHT HOME ALL THE PVC PIPE, ROPE AND RIBBON MATERIAL TO BE MADE INTO ANOTHER SCULPTURE THAT WILL BE SHOWN IN SEATTLE AND POSSIBLY AT BRC 2010.
HERE ARE PHOTOS OF THE EVO-WALL FROM BURNING MAN 2009. THE EVO-WALL WAS FINISHED AND INSTALLED BY THE SATURDAY BEFORE BURNING MAN BEGAN. THE WEATHER WAS PERFECT AND MADE SETUP EASY AND ENJOYABLE FOR MY CREW. THANKS GOES TO MY FRIENDS OF THE sober Free society FOR ALL THERE HELP AND SUPPORT IN MAKING MY ART.
PEOPLE WERE ENCOURAGED TO SIGN THE WALL IN SOME WAY AND THESE LADIES SHOWED UP RIGHT AFTER WE FINISHED THE SETUP. AFTER HEARING THEY WERE STRANDED ON THE PLAYA WE INVITED THEM TO JOIN OUR STEAK DINNER THAT EVE IN CELEBRATION OF COMPLETION OF THE EVO-WALL.
THE EVO-WALL WAS LOCATED 1200' OFF THE MAN AT THE 1:30 HOUR OF THE DIAL.
FRIDAY NIGHT BEFORE BURNING MAN BEGAN WE WERE FED BY THE CAMP OF THE LIVING DEAD AS PART OF THE FEED THE ARTIST PROGRAM. AFTER EATING A DELICIOUS MEAL WE WENT OUT TO THE EVO-WALL AND FIRED UP THE BURN BARREL FOR THE FIRST TIME.
THIS IS THE FIRST METAL WORK I'VE DONE AS AN ARTIST. IT WAS MADE IN MONTANA DURING A VACATION AT OUR FRIENDS BRADLEY AND DEBRA'S HOUSE. BRADLEY DID THE PRECISION CUTS AND A BIT OF WELDING AND I PLASMA CUT THE FLAMES AND DESIGNED THE BARREL.
HERE IS SOME CONSTRUCTION PICS OF THE WALL. THE SHAPE OF THE WALL WAS PULLED FROM THE RENDERINGS AND I HAD THE CURVED RIBS CNC CUT THEN I FRAMED THEM AND BOLTED ALL THE FRAMES TOGETHER BEFORE ADDING THE VERTICAL FENCE MATERIAL.
I USED RECLAIMED FENCE MATERIAL DONATED BY FRIENDS AND FAMILY AS MUCH AS I COULD BEFORE THE WALL EVENTUALLY EVOLVED INTO NEW MATERIALS.
PRIOR TO GOING TO BURNING MAN WE SET THE EVO-WALL UP IN PIONEER SQUARE DURING THE FIRST THURSDAY ARTWALK. THERE WAS A LIVE BAND PLAYING NEXT TO US AND WE GOT LOTS OF PEOPLE TO ADD DRAWINGS AND SIGNATURES TO THE WALL.
HERE I AM CUTTING THE FENCE TO SHAPE. I DESIGNED EVERYTHING TO BE EASILY BUILT, SETUP AND INSTALLED AND I FEEL EVERYTHING WENT ACCORDING TO PLAN AND THAT MISSION WAS ACCOMPLISHED.
NEARING THE END OF THE WEEK YOU CAN SEE THE WOOD PILE USED TO FEED THE BURN BARREL NEARLY ALL GONE. BY THE SUNDAY WE BURNED THE WALL THERE WAS ABOUT TEN PIECES OF WOOD LEFT FROM THE ORIGINAL CORD OF WOOD WE BROUGHT. I WANTED PEOPLE TO BE A PART OF THE ART PROJECT SO I LEFT IT TO THEM TO FEED THE FIRE AT NIGHT AND HEARD LOTS OF PEOPLE ENJOYED DOING THAT AND SOME WOULD STAY FOR HOURS.
ORIGINALLY I WANTED THE EVO-WALL OUT IN DEEP PLAYA TO BE A HARD TO FIND OASIS OF WARMTH AND TASTEFUL MUSIC BUT AS A HONORARIUM ARTIST IT NEEDED TO BE EASIER TO GET TO AND SEE. AT NIGHT DUE TO THE SOMEWHAT TRANSPARENT NATURE OF THE WALL AND IT'S SUBTLE LIGHTING IT SEEMED TO GET WASHED OUT BY THE BRIGHT LIGHTS OF THE BRC CITY BEHIND IT AND MADE THE EVO-WALL SEEM TO VANISH FROM A DISTANCE SO IT WAS A GOOD PLACE TO GET LOST WITHOUT NEEDING TO BE IN DEEP PLAYA.
